Lorde Rules Australia's Albums Chart with 'Melodrama' !
Lorde is on top Down Under with Melodrama (Universal).
The Kiwi singer-songwriter's sophomore album starts in the top spot on the ARIA Albums Chart to equal the effort of its predecessor Pure Heroine, which also bowed at No. 1 back in October 2013. Off the back of her new release, Lorde’s debut album returns to the top 50 this week at No. 26.
Melodrama, which also leads the Billboard 200, does enough to drop Ed Sheeran’s Divide (Warner) into second place on the Australian survey, while a pair of new releases, Nickelback’s Feed The Machine (BMG/Warner) and Royal Blood’s How Did We Get So Dark? (WEA/Warner), take positions 3 and 4, respectively. The fifth spot on the latest albums tally is occupied by London Grammar’s Truth Is A Beautiful Thing (Dew Process/Universal), down from No. 3 last week.
Also flying high on the latest chart is Fleet Foxes, the American indie-folk act whose third studio album Crack-Up (None/Warner) opens at No. 10. Crack-Up is the Seattle group’s third studio set and second to chart in the top 50, following its most recent LP Helplessness Blues which reached No. 6 in May 2011.
Katy Perry First Artist to Hold Three Diamond Song Awards !
Katy Perry just made history. The “Save As Draft” singer now has three songs among the only 14 that have ever passed 10 million sales/streams. As such, she is the only person to hold three Diamond Song Awards from the Recording Industry Association of America.
“Roar” is the most recently awarded song to put Perry over the top. Before “Roar” made super strides, Perry had been tied with Lady Gaga and Eminem for most number of Diamond Song Awards.
Chairman and CEO of the RIAA Cary Sherman released a statement about Perry’s win.
“Once again, Katy Perry has made history,” Sherman said. “We are thrilled to recognize Katy as the first artist to earn three Diamond Song Awards. Katy has a singular track record of notable Gold & Platinum achievements, and this triple Diamond milestone is now forever etched in our program’s history. Only 14 songs have earned Diamond status to date, and Katy owns three of them — what a remarkable achievement and testament to a groundbreaking artist.”
There may be mixed reviews about Perry’s Witness songs, but the singer herself is making huge strides in the music industry and in the social media game. Just one week ago, she became the first Twitter user to net 100 million followers.
Royal Blood beating Lorde and Nickelback to UK albums number one spot !
Royal Blood are on course to reach number one in the UK albums chart this week, beating both Lorde and Nickelback to the top spot.
The Brighton duo released their second album ‘How Did We Get So Dark’ last Friday (June 16), the same day that New Zealand pop sensation Lorde dropped her own second LP ‘Melodrama’ and Nickelback released their ninth studio record ‘Feed The Machine’.
Royal Blood are currently sitting at top spot in the midweek chart update, ahead of Ed Sheeran’s ‘÷’ at second spot, Nickelback at number three, Rag’N’Bone Man’s ‘Human’ at four and Lorde at number five.
Other new entries include Fleet Foxes‘ ‘Crack-Up’ at number eight, Ride’s ‘Weather Diaries’ at number 11, Goldie‘s ‘The Journey Man’ at 28 and Beth Ditto‘s solo debut ‘Fake Sugar’ at 29.
It would be Royal Blood’s second consecutive UK number one album after their self-titled debut reached the top spot in 2014.
Some of Bob Seger's Music Finally Lands on Streaming Services !
Key albums like 'Night Moves' and 'Against The Wind' hit Spotify, Apple Music and others, but several albums remain missing.
One of the few major streaming holdouts has folded. Bob Seger's music has just become available on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, Napster and Slacker Radio. Up until now, his only songs on Spotify were the Christmas songs "The Little Drummer Boy" and "Sock It To Me Santa," but 13 of his albums are now there, including Ramblin' Gamblin' Man, Live Bullet, Night Moves and Against The Wind. He's also released 10 albums for digital download that weren't previously available.
In a 2014 interview with Rolling Stone, Seger, who will embark on a nationwide tour with the Silver Bullet Band this summer, explained why his music wasn't available online. "It's an ongoing issue with my manager and Capitol Records," he said. "They agreed to something many years ago about new media and they don’t want to live up to it. Until that's resolved, we let very little out ... It does [frustrate me]. I wish people could get any song at any time." It's unclear how the situation with Capitol was resolved and what spurred Seger to change his mind.
Despite this development, six of his earliest albums (Noah, Mongrel, Brand New Morning, Smokin' O.P.'s, Back In '72 and Seven) remain completely out of print and every studio album since 1991's The Fire Inside is still unavailable on streaming sites. Friday's selections, however, represents his commercial peak in the mid-1970s through the early 1990s. At least some of his other albums will be added in the future, but exact details are unclear at this point. Unlike every other classic rock icon, Seger has never released a box set, a DVD or a documentary.
"I'm going to eventually do a collection," Seger told Roling Stone in 2014. "I've been working on it for years. I've got so many albums, but I just keep waiting for the right time to release them. It'll probably happen when the download issue gets settled." He also expressed sympathy for the fans that have been waiting for years to get their hands on his early music without having to shell out for expensive vinyl copies. "I'm sorry about all this," he said. "But, nevertheless, I've had the same manager for 49 years and he's been right most of the time. And I hate to get into that area. He doesn't mess with my music and I don't mess with his area."
With Seger and Taylor Swift now on streaming services, the list of holdouts remains pretty small. Tool, Peter Gabriel, Garth Brooks, King Crimson and Thom Yorke albums are unavailable and key releases by Def Leppard, De La Soul, Aaliyah have also been held back.
